Spinal Hemangioma

Spinal Hemangioma: This type of hemangioma is a benign, primary tumor common in the lumbar and thoracic spine. This kind of tumor normally disturbs the vertebral body, but can also affect the muscle tissues. These tumors have limited symptoms and mostly are found when being examined for another problem. It is common mostly in individuals between the ages of 30 and 50.

Patients with these hemangiomas are watched closely for any sign of fractures caused by compression, development of a mass of soft tissue, and any neurological dysfunction all at the result of a hemangioma.

Treatment is dependent on the location and size of the hemangioma. A combination of surgical removal of the tumor, embolization or closing of the flow of blood as well as radiation therapy is usual.
