Myeloid

This term Myeloid is suggestive of an origin in the spinal cord or bone marrow or resembling the spinal cord or marrow.

In blood cells, this term of “myeloid cell” designates any leukocyte that is not a lymphocyte. Non-lymphocytic groups of white blood cells include monocytes, granulocytes and platelets. These terms are often seen when there is the classifying of cancers, particularly leukemia.

This term should not be confused with the term “myelin” which is the layer that insulates and covers the axons of numerous neurons.
