Mitochondrial Function

Mitochondrial Function: The study of cell sub-units as well as the functions covering each specific sub unit of the cell – each sub-unit is a configuration within a cell that has a precise function. Amid the various sub-units that makes up a eukaryotic cell (cells having nucleus) is “mitochondria” – the cell’s powerhouse. Cellular mitochondria are made up of a bi-layered membrane, where the inner part is made up of folds called “cristae” and these form internal compartments.

Mitochondrial purposes are not just limited to the generation of energy though this is one of its most important tasks. As all the sub-unit of a cell work together to complete bodily functions, mitochondrial functions in a cell are assorted.

The many functions include: mitochondrial structure and function, energy production, cell death programming, and other specific cell functions.
