Lower Right Back Pain

Lower Right Back Pain: This is also referred to as sacro-lliac pain and is a very common reason for pain in the lower back. The joint located there is used a lot and therefore usually abused, and that is a reason why pain happens in this area so often.

There can be many other reasons for pain near this region. The “Quadratus Lumborum” muscle that goes from the top of the pelvis to the base of the ribs can develop what are known as “trigger points”. “Trigger points” may transfer pain to the right lower part of the back.

But, it is the joint – sacro-lliac – which is usually the main cause of pain. And right lower back pain is typically a mixture of a sacro-lliac joint that is tight, several spinal joints that may tighten, the pelvic area being off its balance and “trigger points” along the Quadratus Lumborum.

It can be all of these or a combination. And here is the reason why: the sacro-lliac joint does not have a disc. This joint is referred to as “flat bone joint”; therefore any fortification around this joint is much less than the other spinal joints. If this joint gets tight, the ligaments and muscles around this area also tighten. This is the reason this pain can often radiate up the lower back as well as down into the area of the buttock.

This pain radiation is nothing to be concerned about. “Trigger points” usually send pain to other locations. The muscle fibers that are tight knotted become irritated when a person moves; when they are irritated this pattern pain occurs for that specific “trigger point.

This may sound complicated and complex – and it is. But basically all back pain comes from 4 main aspects – muscles that are tight, muscles that are weak, movement of the joint and pelvic balance.
