Infected Belly Button

An Infected belly button is a problem that is fairly common with individuals who have pierced navels. But, infections of the belly button or navel may also affect those who have never had the belly button pierced.

Symptoms or signs of a belly button infection consist of: reddish color in surrounding area; itching or pain; foul odor from infected area and discharge of pus may occur.

If not treated quickly, the infection could spread and cause blood poisoning

There are numerous reasons for the development of an infection in the belly button and they can include: tattoos or navel piercing can cause an infection; hands that have not been washed before touching the belly button; swimming in water that is mucky or in swimming pools that are unclean; not drying the area well after swimming or taking a shower or getting more piercing or tattoos in an already inflamed belly button

There is nothing worse than a new belly button ring causing an infection. The yellow or green smelly pus oozing needs to be cared for quickly or the infection could extend to the remainder of the body. There might be warmth and pain around the infection and there could be bleeding.
