Corniculate Cartilage
Corniculate cartilages also referred to as cartilages of Santorini are two conical nodules that are small and consist of elastic cartilage that is yellow, which are expressive with the peaks of the arytenoid cartilages with the function of extending them medially as well as posteriorly.
They are positioned in the areas behind the aryepiglottic folds consisting of mucous membrane and are at times fused with the cartilages of the arytenoid.
Synonym beside cartilages of Santorini: cartilago corniculata, corniculum largygis, and supra-arytenoid cartilage.
