Calcium Polycarbophil

Calcium Polycarbophil is used for the treatment of constipation. It is referred to as a laxative that is bulk-forming. It raises the bulk in the stools and this is an effect helping to cause movement of the intestines. It as well works by growing the quantity of water in the stools, making them softer and therefore easier to pass.

What conditions does oral Calcium polycarbophil treat? It is used in treating the incomplete or infrequent bowel movements and might also be used to treat irritable colon and diarrhea.

Some of the side effects of this medication include: gas; stomach cramping; chest pain; vomiting; difficulty swallowing/breathing; rash; itching/swelling; and severe dizziness.

Before taking this medication, let your physician know what allergies that you might have. Tell your physician any medical history especially of: stomach/intestinal blockage; appendicitis or symptoms of appendicitis; difficulty swallowing; sudden change in bowel habits that lasts more than 3 weeks; rectal bleeding; hypercalcemia; and kidney disease.

Also let your physician know about other drugs or herbal products that you are taking.
