Acrivastine

Acrivastine is a short-acting, 2nd generation H1-receptor antagonist antihistamine drug used to treat hypersensitivity and allergic rhinitis. This is available below the label Benadryl® Allergy Relief. Due to its slight calming effect on CVNS, the drug is specifically fit for those who do not want to become sleepy. Though classified as non-drowsy, the medication may still result to drowsiness in selected individuals.

Not like cetirizine and loratidine which can only be given once a day, a capsule of Benadryl can be administered thrice a day. This makes Acrivastine considerably more costly than other antihistamines. Average dosage per day is 24 milligrams. The effect of the drug is rapid, which begins within hour and may last for about 8 hours. The drug is easily absorbed to form an analogue that will compose the 10% of the total concentration of the drug, yet approximately 3/5 of the dose is eliminated in the urine unchanged. Its peak concentration in the blood is within 1 ½ hour.

The drug however is not suitable for patients aged 60 years and above, those who have driving and risky occupation and those who have consumed alcohol excessively.
